Cause

System Recovery backs up the Shadow Copy volumes that are created by Volume Shadow Copy (VSS). The current VSS does not have a function to exclude the files in OneDrive from the shadow copy volume when VSS creates the shadow copy for the volume that has the OneDrive. As a result, the existing recovery points in OneDrive are included in the backup data when the backup destination is specified in OneDrive folder.

Resolution

This behavior is a VSS limitation. When backing up the volume that has OneDrive, specify the volume that does not have OneDrive as the backup destination.

Affected product version
System Recovery 22 or later
