Cause

The root cause of the authentication error was identified as a GPO (Group Policy Object) policy issue. It was found that the "Deny Logon as a batch" or "Logon as a batch" right was removed for the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA). This change in GPO policies resulted in the failure to establish trust, browse, and backup the server.

Resolution

To resolve the authentication error, the following steps are recommended:

  1. Grant the required user rights/permissions for the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA) by following the instructions provided in the article "How to define/grant the required user rights/permissions for a Backup Exec Service Account (BESA)" [link].

  2. Ensure that the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA) is a member of the Backup Operators group.

  3. Grant the Log on as a batch job privilege to the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA).

NOTE: The error message may display another right or permission needed beside the Logon as a Batch job.  Grant the required right or permission per the Error message details.
