Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

 

 

Cause

Backup Exec 16 remote agent fails to uninstall.

 

Resolution

To resolve the issue, copy the contents of the Windows Installer folder product {GUID} from  another server to the C:\Windows\Installer folder, uninstall the Backup Exec 16 remote agent, and install the latest updated agent.

  1. Copy the contents from a working remote agent installation to the C:\Windows\Installer folder.  Example: Backup Exec 16 Remote Agent C:\Windows\Installer\{FF554965-97C7-469A-9A30-E79837C091BA}.  Note: The installation product {GUID} is different for each version of Backup Exec.
  2. Uninstall Backup Exec 16 remote agent.
  3. Install the latest updated agent.

 

Issue/Introduction

Unable to uninstall the older version of the Backup Exec remote agent.
