Error Message

FATAL ERROR: Error 1404. Could not delete key \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VirtFile\LockdownConfiguraiton. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

To resolve the issue, attempt to remove the Virtfile registry entry, reboot the server in Safe mode, remove the entries related to Backup Exec Agent for Windows and Virtfile, delete the virtfile.sys from system32/driver folder, uninstall the Backup Exec agent, and reinstall the Backup Exec agent for windows.

1. Reboot the server in Safe mode.
2. In Safe mode, remove the entries related to Backup Exec Agent for Windows and Virtfile.
3. Go to Start > Run >  Regedit

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
 
Locate and select the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\controlset001\services\virtfile\

Delete the virtfile registry key.

4. Delete the virtfile.sys file in C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder.
5. Reboot to Normal Mode
6. Uninstall the Backup Exec Agent for Windows.
7. Reinstall the Backup Exec agent for Windows.
