Review the Windows Event Logs, run the appropriate Windows diagnostic tool, and then try running the backup again. MAPI client requests are handled by Outlook before the backup\restore API's can handle them which results in the job to hang or fail. This situation has been seen to occur when Outlook 2016 is used for PST restores.
There are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in earlier versions of the software at the present time. However, the issue has been addressed in the revision of the product specified at the end of this article.
