Cause

Windows 2012 R2 uses the Resilient File System (ReFS) file system Version 1.2 by default. After performing an in-place OS upgrade, this ReFS version remains the same. In Backup Exec, for ReFS block cloning to work the minimum ReFS version required is 3.1.

Resolution

NOTE: The Minimum Operating System version required for ReFS block cloning to work for consolidated full backups is Windows 2016.

Run following command using an administrative command prompt to check ReFS version:

fsutil fsinfo refsinfo X:

Where, X: is the volume on which Backup Exec Disk Storage is created.

Use a volume with ReFS 3.1 or higher version File System to create Backup Exec Disk Storage to use ReFS block cloning technology for Consolidated Full backup jobs.
