Note: Backup Exec 22 or greater installations use a named SQL Express instance of BKUPEXEC64.

- For 32-bit SQL Instance of BKUPEXEC: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\Log
- For 64-bit SQL Instance of BKUPEXEC64: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\140\Setup Bootstrap\Log

The specified directory, "C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\", for the INSTALLSHAREDDIR   parameter is not valid because this directory is compressed or is in a compressed directory.   Specify a directory that is not compressed.

or

The specified directory, "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\", for the INSTALLSHAREDDIR  parameter is not valid because this directory is compressed or is in a compressed directory.  Specify a directory that is not compressed.

This issue is seen when the Microsoft SQL Server folder is compressed.
 

The installation of Microsoft SQL Server components and Veritas on compressed folders are not supported.

Perform the following steps to confirm File and Folder compression is disabled, to allow a successful installation or upgrade of Backup Exec:

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86) directory. 
    Right click on Microsoft SQL Server folder and select Properties.
    Uncheck the option Compress contents to save disk space.

2. Perform the same steps on C:\Program Files\Veritas\ directory.

3. Perform the Backup Exec installation or upgrade.
