Cause
When Backup Exec is installed on the server it is likely that there was a Windows Operating System pending restart mainly due to .Net 4.8 not being previously installed. Due to this the required binaries for Microsoft 365 SharePoint Online backups do not register and the backup job fails.
The installation Backup Exec log displays the following message:
+ Backup Exec Pending Restart Check : WARNING
+ The Backup Exec installation process might fail for some Windows components that are installed with Backup Exec because a previous installation or update is pending. Restart the computer and then run the installation again. For more information, refer to the following URL: https://telemetry.veritas.com/entt?product=BE&error=V-225-314.
Additional logging statements in the Backup Exec installation log:
Backup Exec install was unable to register certain .NET dlls file which are essential when running SharePoint Online backups , this may cause SharePoint Online backups to fail. To fix this issue , you may need to reboot this server. For more information see technote : https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100053963Resolution
Reboot the Backup Exec server post installation or upgrade of Backup Exec.
Note: If the issue is not resolved after a reboot , perform a repair installation of Backup Exec.
