Error Message

V-79-57344-38724 - Directory 'E\dir000001\dir000002\dir000003\dir000004\dir000005\dir000006\dir000007\dir000008\dir000009\dir000010\dir000011\dir000012\dir000013\dir000014\dir000015\dir000016\dir000017\dir000018\dir000019\dir000020\dir000021\dir000022\dir000023\dir000024\E' does not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT).  Granular restores cannot be performed for items in this directory.

If Instant GRT is enabled and effective, no exception will be reported during backup. However, the files or subfolders under the folder in question cannot be browsed on the restore selection screen.

Resolution

Workaround:

Shorten the path length or make the folder name not match the drive letter.

To restore a file or subfolder under a folder where the exception occurred, restore the entire VM, start the VM, and then retrieve the file or subfolder. Instant Recovery can be used instead of the restoring the VM.

Issue/Introduction

During backup of a VM, full catalog job for Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) or duplicating a VM backup to a tape, GRT exceptions may occur on a folder name C, D, E, etc. This occurs when both of the following conditions are met. A) A folder name in the guest VM is the same as the drive letter, C, D, E, etc. B) The folder exists in a deep folder that the path length is longer than 255 characters including the mount point. Note: Example of the mount point As examples, Backup Exec mounts VM disks to the following folders on the Backup Exec server. When backing up to tape: C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\Data\Windows 2012-28-06-2022-15-30\MP00\E\ This example consumes the path length of 79. The bold type is the VM name. The path length depends on the VM name or Backup Exec install folder. When backing up to disk: X:\BEData\IMG000002\{1653ab94-9d77-40fe-bc64-c98f945f2827}\MP00\E\ This example consumes the path length of 66.
