Description

VxUpdate is a new feature added in Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) v9.7, that allows you to download and apply updated versions of DLO or Apache\Tomcat components.

This requires that the DLO server has access to the Internet and can access the address https://update.veritas.com via port 443.

Any downloads will be stored locally in the ..\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas DLO\VxUpdate\Downloads folder. 

Solution

If the DLO server does not have Internet access, it is still possible to download the updates packages, via  another  Internet connected machine, using the steps below;

• On a machine that has internet access, open a browser to either of the following URL:
  • For DLO Updates - https://update.veritas.com/dlo/9.0/feedfile/VeritasDLOUpdates-9.0-x64_0109.xml
  • For Component (Apache or Tomcat) Updates - https://update.veritas.com/dlo/9.0/feedfile/component_upgrade_signed_x64_0210.xml
• If a newer version is available, the URL links in those documents will allow you to download the .exe package (see highlighted example below)

• Copy the package URL link to a browser window and run that. That will then download the .exe package to the local machine.
• Copy that .exe package into the ..\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas DLO\VxUpdate\Downloads folder of the DLO server
• Run that package as a user with Local Administrative rights on the DLO server and that will attempt to install on the server. The installation will run silently, so please review the relevant component log (i.e. Apachehttpd_Component_mm-dd-yyyy-mm-ss.txt file ) in the ..\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas DLO\VxUpdate  folder, to check the progress.
• If you attempt to install a package that is already installed on the DLO system, you will not receive a warning, but the installation will silently fail. The component log, mentioned above, with provide more details.
• Once the package has been installed, it will be removed from the ..\VxUpdate\Downloads folder.

If you have more than one DLO Server that does not have internet access, repeat the steps above and copy the package to other DLO servers.

Dedicated Edge servers should also be updated to the same level as the DLO server, although in a pure Edge  Server configuration (no other DLO components installed) only the Apache HTTP Server upgrade will be needed.

To verify the new version(s) have been installed, follow the steps below for the appropriate components; 

• To confirm the version of DLO Server installed, either note the version displayed in the splash-screen, when the DLO Administration Console is opened or check under Help - About Desktop and Laptop Option in the console
• To confirm the Apache Tomcat version (used by the Web Service\IO server), go to  ..\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas DLO\Dedupe\Tomcat  and open RELEASE-NOTES using Notepad. That will show the version in the heading of the document (i.e. Apache Tomcat Version 8.5.79   Release Notes )
• To confirm the currently installed Apache HTTP Server (on the Edge server), go to ..\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache24\bin  and open the Properties of file httpd.exe. In the Properties - Details tab it will show 'Product version'  (i.e. Product version:   2.4.54)

Please be aware that the updates are only qualified for use with DLO 9.7 or later and should not be applied to any earlier versions of DLO.
