Cause

The issue can be caused by any of the following reasons.

1. Firmware of the Network attached storage is not up to date.

2. SMB version present on Backup Exec server (SMB 2.0) and the Network Attached storage is different.

3. Backup Exec services are running under Domain Admin account/ Backup Exec Service Account.

Resolution

Solution 1

Updating the Firmware for the Network Attached Storage and running the backup job will resolve the issue.

Instructions on updating the Firmware for QNAP NAS is provided in the following article.

Solution 2

SMB or Server Message Block Protocols are used to connect your computer to an external server.

The SMB version installed on the Server can be checked using the Registry.

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

Open the registry via regedit.exe and navigatte to the following registyr key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

Check the DWORD values named  SMB1 or SMB2.

If  the value is set to 0, it is disabled and any other value it's enabled.

The SMB version on the NAS Console needs to be the same as that of the Backup Exec server. To check the SMB version on the NAS Console, refer the article given below and check whether SMB 2.0 is set as the Highest SMB version.

If it displays SMB 3.0, change Highest SMB version back to SMB 2.0, restart the Backup Exec services and re run the backup.
