Event viewer will show the following error when local cache fills up
An error occurred in the PDVFS driver:  PdvfsPwrite failed, error: 28

Job Log reports the following error when local cache fills up
0xe0001203 - An error occurred while creating or accessing the directory specified for this operation.
Check to make sure that the B2D folder and/or the temporary path specified for this operation are valid.

Cause

Resolution

Please update to the latest current version of Backup Exec to resolve this issue.

Workaround:

To avoid local dedupe cache filling up, perform Backup of GRT capable resources straight to Cloud Deduplication Storage. The local dedupe cache fill up is seen only when GRT Backup sets are duplicated from a disk storage (B2D) to Cloud Deduplication Storage. The Backups straight to disk storage (B2D) can be carried on without the duplicate stage to cloud deduplication storage while this issue is being investigated.

Note: Backup Sets created by jobs run with GRT option selected (refer below screenshots)

If the Duplicate job to Cloud Deduplication storage fail with the error 0xe0001203, then it means the local deduplication storage which is being used as a local cache has filled up.
Run the following command to check the configured cache size :

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec>crcontrol.exe --dsstat --verbosecloud

************ Data Store statistics ************
Data storage      Raw    Size   Used   Avail  Cache Use%
                 250.0G 239.0G  34.7G 204.3G  27.6G  15%

  • Ensure the Local Deduplication Drive has Cache Size* ( configured as above ) + (CloudDataCacheSize+CloudMapCacheSize+CloudMetaCacheSize+CloudUploadCacheSize)+(4% of Local Deduplication Drive size) space available to continue to run the Backups to Cloud Deduplication Storage.

CloudDataCacheSize,CloudMapCacheSize, CloudMetaCacheSize, CloudUploadCacheSize are present in contentrouter.cfg file at  \etc\Puredisk path.

  • Cache size* parameters can be located in cloud.json (\etc\Puredisk path) can be reduced further if needed. UploadCacheGB, DownloadDataCacheGB, DownloadMetaCacheGB, MapCacheGB. Add these to calculate the Cache size* as displayed by the crcontrol.exe --dsstat --verbosecloud command

Backup Exec Deduplication Engine service will need to be restarted if any changes are made in the above files.
Note: The Backup Exec Lockdown settings has to be disabled temporarily in order to edit any of the above files.
