Error Code: 0xe0009768 - Failed to open a file located within a virtual disk for the purposes of restore. Support for the Windows Deduplication feature is not present in this version of the Windows Operating System or the Windows Deduplication feature is not installed on the Backup Exec Server

Resolution

Install  the Data Deduplication role on the Backup Exec media server using Windows Server Manager and re-run the restore job.

Issue/Introduction

GRT restore of virtual machine hosting deduplication volume fails in following condition:
  • Backup Exec server does not have data duplication role enabled.
  • A VMware hosted virtual machine is being backed up with the GRT option enabled.
  • The virtual machine has data deduplication role enabled.
