Virtual Machines hosted on SMB share can be backed up with Backup Exec latest versions if the Hyper V host operating system supports Resilient Change Tracking ( RCT is a feature of Windows Server 2016 and above operating system )

If the Hyper V node(s) operating system is Windows Server 2016 or above, RCT should be enabled from Backup Exec Global Settings -> Virtual Machine -> Select the checkbox 'Use Resilient Change Tracking wherever applicable' to backup Virtual Machine(s) hosted over SMB share.
