Error Message

"Backup Exec has detected that you have set a high debug log level for some Backup Exec processes, which can generate a large volume of debug logs. It is recommended that you turn off the debug logging if it is not required."

Cause

This warning is generated if higher debug logging is set for some of Backup Exec processes. This can be verified by checking following registry keys.

Any non-zero value of below registry keys will result in generation of this alert.

1. Value of ‘Enabled’ under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Debug

 

2. Value of ‘CreateDebugLog’ under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Logging

 

3. Value of ‘DebugLevel’ under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\PureDisk\PDVFS

Resolution

To disable logging and turn off this warning set the value of following registry keys to ‘0’

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

1.       Stop all Backup Exec services.

2.       Open registry editor

3.        Locate and set ‘Enabled’ to 0

‘Enabled’ DWORD path :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Debug

4.       Locate and set ‘CreateDebugLog’ to 0

‘CreateDebugLog’ DWORD path :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Logging

5.        Locate and set ‘DebugLevel’ to 0

‘DebugLevel’ DWORD path :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\PureDisk\PDVFS

6.       Start all Backup Exec services.
