Product version

System Recovery 2013, 2013 R2, 16, 18

Cause

Upgrading / installation / uninstallation process of System Recovery checks if Distributed Transaction Coordinator service is available. The process fails when Distributed Transaction Coordinator service is unavailable.

NOTE:
Distributed Transaction Coordinator service (MSDTC) is installed on all Windows operating systems. The default startup type depends on the version or edition of Windows being used and it is Automatic, Automatic (Delayed Start), or Manual. This issue never occurs when the default startup type is set but occurs when the startup type is "Disabled".

Resolution

Upgrade, install, or uninstall System Recovery again after changing Startup type for Distributed Transaction Coordinator service from "Disabled" to "Automatic" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)". (See Figure 2)

Once upgrade, install or uninstall of System Recovery is complete, you can set your preferred startup type for MSDTC.
