Resolution

This does not indicate a failure; it is information shared so that you are aware of the registry change. For details on this registry value, contact your Windows administrator or Microsoft and the value can be reset, if required. However, this registry change is required by Backup Exec to be able to provide protection to a disk storage hosted on a Media server and shared with another Media Server.

If the registry value is not set as required by Backup Exec, the lockdown feature will not be available on the storage.

Issue/Introduction

A Storage Information or Warning alert is seen when sharing a disk storage hosted on a Managed Backup Exec server or a Central Administration Server with another Media Server in the CAS environment. This warning indicates updating a Windows registry on the Media Server. Windows 2008 R2: The registry value DWORD “enableECP” under the registry key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ services\ LanManServer\” needs to be set to 1. Backup Exec automatically sets this value and sends a Storage Warning indicating the change done. Windows 2012 and Windows 2012 R2: If registry value DWORD “enableECP” under the registry key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ services\ LanManServer\” is set to 0, it is deleted by Backup Exec and an alert is sent to inform he user about this registry change.
