Description

Error Message

SDR recovery wizard displays the following error:

The job failed with the following error: Backup Exec skipped a device that has been locked by BitLocker. BitLocker enabled devices must be unlocked before Backup Exec can access them.

For more information about BitLocker, refer to your Microsoft documentation.

Cause

The issue occurs if ADK is compatible with an earlier version of the operating system and you attempt to restore the ReFS volume of the latest operating system.

For example, you try to restore an RS4 server operating system using SDR based on ADK 10. This does not work because the ReFS version has changed in RS4. ReFS version in RS4 is 3.4 and the ADK on which SDR is based is compatible with Windows Server 2016 (ADK 10). This ADK (and Windows Server 2016 operating system) support an earlier ReFS version - ReFS version 3.1.

This issue occurs in the same system restore scenario (You are trying to restore backup to the same machine with the disk and volumes available).

Resolution

To resolve this issue, do one of the following:

  • Use the SDR based on ADK compatibility with the operating system being restored.
  • You can also restore the operating system using SDR and restore ReFS volumes as online volumes after you boot in the restored operating system.
