Description
After successfully restoring a virtual machine to local storage and importing it into vSphere (vCenter / ESXi), the VM will not boot.
Error Message
Failed to open disk scsi0: Unsupported or invalid disk type 7: Ensure that the disk has been imported.
Cause
When a VMDK (virtual disk) is restored to a local volume the disk type is changed.
Resolution
Restore the VM directly back to the vSphere environment (vCenter / ESXi).
Workaround: Use VMware Converter to import the VM that was restored to a local volume to the vSphere (vCenter / ESXi) environment.
