Error on Tape Media:
1. Check the tape. Look for hard-read write errors on the tape. Confirm with the tape vendor if the tape is good. If the tape is faulty, replace it.
2. If all tapes show the same error and it is confirmed that the tape cartridge is fine, then the device can be checked. Firmware, drivers, cables, controller are a few things that should be checked and updated. Hardware vendor diagnostics can also be run to confirm the device is working properly.
3. If the errors persist, a long or short erase can be run on the tape (Note : This will erase the data from the tape, so only perform this if the data on the tape is not needed). If that specific tape still shows the error, have it checked by the hardware vendor to confirm the tape is fine. If the hardware vendor confirms the tape is fine and a long or short erase has not helped, then contact Backup Exec technical support.
Error on Disk Storage:
1. It could be that the specific media i.e. BKF is faulty. This could be due to file system corruption on the backup storage destination. Event Logs can be checked to see if any problem exists with the backup destination storage location.
2. The same error can also occur when the backup destination is a deduplication capable storage. The reason for such media could be due to a fault/failure during backup. A backup job should clear and keep the OST media in the proper state, but by any chance, if this is seen, then check which job created those media. If that job is failing, investigate the cause of that backup failure, rectify it and then newer media should not run into this problem. If earlier media are still causing any backup issues, then contact Backup Exec technical support.
