The Backup Exec Device & Media Service service depends on the SQL Server (BKUPEXEC) service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service has returned a service-specific error code.
Preparing for a manual disaster recovery
Perform these steps:
1. Install Windows operating system (Do not join the domain).
2. Change the computer name to the same as original.
NOTE: Perform the following steps if needed.
2.1 Add primary DNS suffix if the original computer joined the domain.
2.2 Change network settings to the same as original.
2.3 Change Windows firewall settings to the same as original.
3. Reboot the machine.
4. Install Backup Exec 16 to another location like C:\BE16.
5. Reboot the machine.
Restoring full backup data
Perform these steps:
1. From the Backup Exec console, add local administrator account (e.g. NODENAME\Administrator or .\administrator) to the credential.
2. Select the computer, and then click Restore.
3. Select Complete online restore of a computer, or restore system components, and then click Next.
4. Select A Microsoft Windows computer that was fully selected for a backup, and then click Next.
5. Check C: and System State, and then click Next.
6. Check Restore over existing files, and then click Next.
7. Proceed the wizard, and click Finish.
8. Reboot the machine after the restore job completes.
After restoring full backup data.
Perform these steps:
1. Confirm SQLServer (BKUPEXEC) service and all Backup Exec services start. If SQLServer (BKUPEXEC) service does not start, please perform 2 to 6.
2. Confirm Event ID 17113, 7024 and 7001 are logged in Event Viewer. (For details, please see Error message section.)
3. Open Explorer and select View > Options. Select View tab and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
4. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.BKUPEXEC\MSSQL\DATA.
5. Rename some files as below, and uncheck "Read-only".
master$4idr → master.mdf
mastlog$4idr → mastlog.ldf
model$4idr → model.mdf
modellog$4idr → modellog.ldf
msdbdata$4idr → msdbdata.mdf
msdblog$4idr → msdblog.ldf
6. Reboot the machine.
