The following procedure describes how to recover the entire Hyper-V cluster which has Cluster Shared Volume (CSV).
Preparing every cluster node for a manual disaster recovery
Perform these steps on every cluster node:
1. Install Windows operating system (don't join the domain).
2. Change the computer name to the same as original.
3. Add primary DNS suffix.
4. Change network settings to the same as original.
5. Change Windows firewall settings to the same as original.
6. Reboot the node.
7. Install Backup Exec Agent for Windows manually.
8. Reboot the node.
Restoring every cluster node
Perform these steps on Backup Exec server and every node:
1. From the Backup Exec console, add local administrator account (e.g. NODENAME\Administrator) to the node's credential.
2. Establish trust between the Backup Exec server and the node.
3. Select the node computer, and then click Restore.
4. Select Complete online restore of a computer, or restore system components, and then click Next.
5. Select A Microsoft Windows computer that was fully selected for a backup, and then click Next.
6. Check HOST COMPONENT, and then click Next.
7. Select Restore cluster quorum, and then click Next.
8. Follow the Restore Wizard prompts to restore the data.
9. After the restore job completes, reboot the node.
10. Repeat step 1. - 9. for another node(s).
Configuring new shared disks for replacement
Perform this step on every node:
1. Connect to the new shared disks.
Perform these steps on the first node:
1. Launch Disk Management.
2. Bring the shared disk online.
3. Format it.
4. Bring it back offline.
5. Repeat step 2. - 4. for every shared disk.
Configuring a quorum witness disk
Perform these steps on the first node. If your cluster's quorum configuration is "Node Majority" which has no quorum witness disk, skip this section and go to
Configuring Cluster Shared Volumes.
1. Launch Failover Cluster Manager.
2. Select quorum witness disk, select More Actions…, and then click Repair.
3. Choose the shared disk for new quorum witness disk, and then click OK.
4. Select quorum witness disk, and then click Bring online.
5. Select volume of quorum witness disk, and then change drive letter to the same as original, if needed.
Configuring Cluster Shared Volumes
Perform these steps on the first node.
1. Launch Failover Cluster Manager.
2. Add Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) with the new shared disk.
3. Rename CSV mount point name (e.g. C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1) to the same as original, if needed.
4. Repeat step 2. - 3. for each CSV you need.
Restoring Hyper-V Data
Perform these steps on the Backup Exec server.
1. On Backup Exec console, select Hyper-V cluster virtual server, and then click Restore.
2. Select Microsoft Hyper-V Data, and then click Next.
3. Follow the Restore Wizard prompts to restore the data.
