Cause

This issue occurs when all of the following conditions are fulfilled.

1. Opt-dedup between Data Domain.
2. Attempting to deduplicate Oracle backup sets.
3. The following registry value does not exist or is set to 0.

Registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\TapeFormat\DisableDataDomainOneBSDPerImage
Registry value type: DWORD

Resolution

WORKAROUND:
Perform the following steps.

1. Open Registry Editor, add the following registry value, and set it to 1.

Registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\TapeFormat\DisableDataDomainOneBSDPerImage
Registry value type: DWORD

2. Restart all the Backup Exec services.

3. Create one backup job per Oracle instance. Do not include file level backup or the other Oracle instances in the backup job.

4. Open Backup Exec console, and select ”Storage". Change "Split data stream every" on both Data Domain source and target devices from the default size 50 GB to 1 TB or more to prevent the media from being spanned.
 
Note:There is a known issue when setting "Split data stream every" to 400 GB or more. Please refer to article 000109413.
