Failure to create Recovery Tasks for password protected images in clients running old versions of Symantec System Recovery managed from Veritas System Recovery Management Solution.

Cause

If you install an earlier version and then push the VSR-MS agent and plugin, the dlls of the earlier version are overwritten by the VSR-MS plugin causing this error.

Resolution

For Symantec System Recoery (SSR) 2013 and 2013R2 clients perform the following steps:
  1. Click Start > Run and enter Services.msc
  2. Stop the Symantec System Recovery service.
  3. Start the command prompt as Administrator.
  4. For a 64-bit client computer, navigate to \Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Veritas SRMS Agents\X64\
For a 32-bit computer, navigate to \Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Veritas SRMS Agents\X86\
  1. Run:   regsvr32.exe /u VProObj.dll
  2. If the computer has SSR 2013 or 2013 R2 installed, navigate to \Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VProRecovery\
  3. Run:  regsvr32.exe VProObj.dll
  4. Start the Symantec System Recovery service.
  5. Restart the Symantec Management Agent service.
  6. Take a backup and restore.

Only for SSR 2011-64bit  Standalone clients perform the following steps :
  1. Click Start > Run and enter Services.msc.
  2. Stop the Symantec Management Agent and Symantec System Recovery services.
  3. Start the command prompt as Administrator.
  4. Navigate to \Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Veritas SRMS Agents\
  5. Run the following two commands: 
       regsvr32.exe /u BackupAgent.dll 
     regsvr32.exe /u BackupTaskAgent.dll
  6. Navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
  7. Run the following command:
    regsvr32.exe \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VProRecovery\VProObj.dll
  8. Copy the two dlls attached in the article to any folder (for example, C:\temp).
  • BackupAgent.dll
  • BackupTaskAgent.dll
  1. Point to the folder where the dlls are copied and then run the following two commands:
       regsvr32.exe BackupAgent.dll  
     regsvr32.exe BackupTaskAgent.dll
  2. Go to services.msc and start the Symantec Management Agent and Symantec System Recovery services.
  3. Take a backup and restore.

Issue/Introduction

In older Symantec System Recovery clients which are managed from Veritas System Recovery Management Solution (VSR-MS), all password protected recovery tasks fail to create with the following error message: Password mismatch.
