Cause

This problem occurs if the following conditions are present on the virtual machine:
  • The virtual machine had user checkpoints present at the time of the GRT-enabled backup.
  • The user checkpoint was created when a large number of writes or update operations were in-progress on the virtual machine.
If these conditions occur, the metadata for the files was not updated in the virtual disk files that were backed up and Backup Exec skipped data that was on the virtual disk.

Resolution

Microsoft recommends that you do not create standard checkpoints in production setups because it can cause data consistency issues. To avoid this issue, create the user checkpoint after you turn off the virtual machine.

Issue/Introduction

Files are corrupt on a virtual machine on a Hyper-V host after the entire virtual machine or file/folder-level GRT items are restored.
