Cause
Backup Exec uses Windows Server for NFS to share the VMDK files with the ESXi host and NFS for Windows does not support thin provisioned disks. Although the disks appear as thick provisioned, they are stored in a monolithic sparse format so that they do not take up extra space in backup storage.
Resolution
There is no solution to this issue and VMware Storage vMotion will be slower than expected.
Issue/Introduction
When a protected VMware virtual machine with thin provisioned disks is used as a source for instant recovery, the instantly recovered virtual machine’s disks appear as “Thick Provisioned Eager Zeroed”. This causes the ESXi host to read the entire disk instead of the portions of data when the VMDK is migrated with VMware Storage vMotion.
