Instantly recovered virtual machines running on Backup Exec 15 Feature Pack 5 or later.
Resolution
To remove an instantly recovered virtual machine, always run the
Remove a Recovered VM job from the Backup Exec user interface. Use the following steps only when you have run the
Remove a Recovered VM job and the job fails to remove the instantly recovered virtual machine.
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor might prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Only a person experienced in using the registry editor application should perform registry modifications. Veritas recommends that you take a complete backup of the registry and the Backup Exec server on which you modifying the registry before making any registry changes.
- On the Backup Exec server, open the registry editor.
- Create the following DWORD value at the following path and set it to 1.
Registry Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Misc
DWORD value: Ignore IR Standdown Failures
When you enable this registry value, the Remove a Recovered VM job ignores errors at any stage of the operation and clears the BEDB metadata for the instantly recovered virtual machine
- In Backup Exec, run the Remove a Recovered VM job to remove the instantly recovered virtual machine. The Remove a Recovered VM job removes the instantly recovered virtual machine from Backup Exec even if it encounters errors in the operation. If the instantly recovered virtual machine is still not removed, contact the technical support team for further assistance.
- Disable the registry value ‘Ignore IR Standdown Failures’ created in step 2 by setting the DWORD value to 0.
