ERROR: 2120028 The maximum number of registrations for this serial number has been reached.

IPL is the ability to enter a License Serial Number into the product installer screens, at which point the process uses internet access to validate the license details and apply the correct license. Currently this process does not have any ability to split the registration of quantities of licenses purchased for separate installations (against a given customer) and as such the process will register all of the available license count that applies to the serial number as used.

To split a multi-count license, one or more SLF files must be retrieved from the licensing section of the "My Veritas" Customer Portal and then imported manually into the Backup Exec installation instead of using IPL. To achieve this, choose from one of the following methods:

METHOD 1 - Split the quantities using the license portal

1. Sign in to the "My Veritas" Customer Portal at https://my.veritas.com
2. Click the Licensing tab and select the correct account
3. Click on Entitlements under the Licensing tab
4. Browse to (or search for) the appropriate entitlement and click the link in the Entitlement ID column
5. In the Current Version tab, click "Get a key" - the license details with currently issued keys (and their quantities) will now be seen
6. If 100% of the license quantity has already been accidentally used, the Return link (or links) can be used to reset the registration of the license use
7. Click on Generate to create a new key and enter the desired quantity before clicking Generate again.
8. Scroll down the page and use the Save button to save the new SLF file.
9. Go to the Licenses tab (within Entitlements) and repeat steps 7 and 8 to generate and download separate SLF files (with appropriate quantities) for each Backup Exec server.
10. In The Backup Exec license install screens (on each server) use the "Import Veritas License File" button to apply the appropriate license to each server

METHOD 2 - Use an SLF file that contains the total quantity and split the applied count during the install

1. Either use the portal to generate and download an SLF file for 100% of the quantity of the entitlement, using the steps provided in Method 1 above OR if IPL has already been used on the first Backup Exec server, go to this server and retrieve the SLF file from C:\ProgramData\veritas Shared\Licenses\Backup Exec\ (use a text editor to identify the correct SLF file)
2. Use the information in the attached PDF to specify the number of licenses installed on each Backup Exec server in the environment.

Notes:
If there are any problems accessing the My Veritas Portal or using the portal once logged in, then Custoemr care should be contacted for assistance, the technical Support Team cannot help with such issues.

Method 1 is recommended as Method 2 requires (potentially ongoing) validation that the actual purchased count has not been exceeded.

If a Backup Exec license is purchased that involves multiple counts (such as the V-Ray Edition processor/CPU quantity or the Terabyte (TB) quantities against the Capacity Editions) then if "In Product Licensing" (IPL) is used, the first Backup Exec server to be installed will register the use of all the available quantity on our licensing server, even if the installer then chooses to reduce the actual quantity installed on the server.

Any subsequent attempts to install further Backup Exec servers using the same license with the intention of using the unused quantity will fail and the message "ERROR: 2120028 The maximum number of registrations for this serial number has been reached." will be seen.
