Boot Volume Can not be created on dynamic disk

Drive mismatched volume

Resolution

A restore of a system with this kind of configuration will work if the restore is done on the same system with disk and volume configuration intact. In this case SDR will automatically map the partitions and volumes even if they are present on dynamic disks.

A workaround to restore this kind of configuration is to install the OS, create the desired disk and volume configuration and then try a Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) restore.

Issue/Introduction

SDR does not support creation of critical volumes like boot, system volumes or critical partitions like system reserved partition on dynamic disks. This behavior is as designed.

If a user tries to do this manually through the Advanced Disk Configuration option then he will see message:
The boot volume and the system volume contained in the backup set cannot be created on dynamic disks.
