Description
Error Message
The following error message is displayed:
Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.
Cause
When you select the Run Windows Mini-Setup option, Windows enables the default administrator account as part of Mini-Setup activities. This default administrator account password does not meet the password requirements of the system being backed up and so the administrator account cannot be enabled.
Resolution
To resolve these issues, use any of the following solutions:
- Set the default Administrator password on your computer and take a backup. Try restore or physical to virtual conversion with the new recovery point.
- Do not select the Run Windows Mini-Setup option when you restore the recovery points or during physical to virtual conversion.
- When the error message is displayed, perform the following steps:
- Press SHIFT+F10 to open the command prompt.
- Type net user administrator * and press Enter.
- Type the password.
- Reboot the computer.
Note: Windows Mini-Setup is intended for Windows Server 2003 / Windows XP and older. As newer versions of Veritas System Recovery (VSR) do not support these older versions of Windows, the Run Windows Mini-Setup option has been removed from VSR 16 Service Pack 1 and newer.
Issue/Introduction
An error message is displayed for the following issue in System Recovery:
- After you restore recovery points to a bare metal system with the Restore Anyware and Run Windows Mini-Setup options, the reboot fails.
- After Physical to Virtual Conversion with the Run Windows Mini-Setup option is complete you cannot boot into the VHD/VMDK/VHDX file.
