Cause
After media server migration to Backup Exec 2012 or greater, Backup-to-Disk (B2D) folders are converted to disk storage locations or legacy B2D folders. Only one randomly selected B2D folder per Volume will be converted to a Disk Storage Location. Any additional B2D folders on the same volume will be converted into a Legacy or Archive Read Only B2D folders. This is because only one storage device can be assigned to any given volume or drive letter. While this randomly selected former B2D folder exists, the volume´s drive letter will not show on 'Configure Storage' wizard as an available storage location.

Resolution
- In Backup Exec , only one storage device (B2D) can be assigned to a drive, other old B2D folders on the same drive will be found as read-only storage drives or Legacy backup-to-disks.
- Legacy folder's contents can be moved into any other storage device (B2D). (An inventory and catalog job would still be required before restore )
- Deleting or moving legacy B2D folders will not have any adverse affect on main B2D folders which were active and in a working state after migration. However this main B2D can also be removed if the user wants to create a new B2D folder. (Please take all necessary precautions before removing the working Storage device (B2D) and its contents; if not sure, contact Veritas Backup Exec technical support for assistance.)
Note: BE services may need to be restarted after deleting old folders in order to allow the volume to be available and to be selected as a new Disk-based Storage Device.
Applies To
Backup Exec 2012 or Higher.
Issue/Introduction
Disk-based storage devices show as Read-Only or legacy media with a crossed pencil icon in Backup Exec. This will prevent the 'Configure Storage' wizard from showing the drive letter as an available storage location.
