Description

Error Message

"Error copying the machine specific Simplified Disaster Recovery information to alternate data path . The path could not be found.

"Error loading disaster recovery information file."

Final error: 0xb7 - Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
UMI Code: V-79-0-183

Cause

A valid alternate path needs to be correctly set in Configuration and Settings -> Backup Exec Settings -> Simplified Disaster Recovery

Resolution

Specify an alternate or additional location for the disaster recovery information files that Backup Exec automatically creates.  The following are requirements for the alternate data path:

  • The alternate location should be on a different computer than the Backup Exec server. If the Backup Exec server's hard drive is damaged, access a copy of the disaster recovery information from the alternate location.
  • The path needs to either be a fully-qualified local path such as "D:\AlternateDR" on the Backup Exec server or a valid UNC path such as "\\\".  The alternate path cannot be a drive letter mapped to a network location.
  • The logon account used for Backup Exec services must have read and write permissions to the share and to the path in the file system Access Control List.

Note: If the alternate path does not meet these requirements, the .DR file will not be copied during a backup. The backup job will not fail or finish with an error, but the job log displays the above error message.  Make sure that the alternate data path specified meets all of the criteria listed above and then run the backup job again"
