Job log shows the below error :-

Unable to acquire device or media.
Final error: 0x800706ba - 0x800706ba (2147944122)

Cause

The above error is generated when performing a backup to tape or to a backup to disk folder with Backup Exec for Windows Servers.

Resolution


To troubleshoot this issue, perform the following steps:

1. Verify if the error occurs while running a backup on a tape or a backup to disk media. Try performing backup on both the media. (on a tape as well as on a backup to disk folder)

2. If the backup to disk backup job works and the error is generated only during a tape backup, perform the following to troubleshoot a possible hardware issue:

     I. Attempt to use another tape, or attempt to use the same tape in a different drive.
 
II. Check the Event Viewer for additional errors, and resolve any Event IDs related to the hardware (tape drive or controller). Please refer to the Related Documents section of this article for more details.
 
III. Make sure the hardware devices are at the latest firmware and driver level.
