Using the Recovery Point browser utility files can be open/launch or recover that makes up a recovery point image or image set. To open/recover files from a recovery point image or image set follow the steps listed below.
Note: Files from an encrypting file system (EFS) NTFS volumes images can not be open/recovered within the Recovery Point browser
To browse and open files inside of a recovery point
1. On the Tools page, within the System Recovery console and/or UI, click Run Recovery Point Browser.

Recovery Point Browser to launch the browser utility.
2. In the next screen, navigate to your backup destination folder.
3. Select the recovery point file (i.e. *.v2i or *.iv2i) that to open/recover files from
4. Click
Open
5. Once the image has loaded, in the Recovery Point Browser tree panel on the left side of the screen, select a drive and navigate through the folder hierarchy to the sub-folder of the files in question.
Note: If the file(s) in question are not able to be found, the exact location of the files are unknown, or a specific file type is to be used, consider using the, 'mount,' option to use Windows Explorer to search for files that are needed. More information about the mount option is listed in the related document section below.
7. Right-click the file and do one of the following:
- To view/open, right click on the file and then click
View File.
NOTE: The View option is unavailable if you select a program file that has a .exe, dll, or .com file extension.
NOTE: A file can be open in so long as an appropriate application use to open/edit such files is also installed on the system from which the browser is to be use and the file in question has been appropriately associated to this application within Windows; if the file type is not associated with a program, the Microsoft Open With dialog box is displayed. you can then select the correct program for opening/editing/viewing the selected file.
- To restore one or more files right click on the file(s) and click
Recover Files |
Recover to and choose a recovery option. If prompted, click Yes or Yes to All to overwrite the existing (original) files if the files already exist.
