Resolution
The Backup Exec Oracle agent configuration utility, AgentConfig, does not discover any or some Oracle instances when choosing the option Configure Oracle Instance Information.
The utility first reports that no Oracle instance were discovered or only shows instances that have previously been configured. AgentConfig provides an option to enter an instance name manually, but when adding the instance, the utility then reports that the entry cannot be validated.
Solution
The AgentConfig utility uses the Oracle file /etc/Oratab to identify database instances running on a server and their respective location.
If this file exists, verify that it is under the /etc directory and that it contains the name of the instance(s) to be configured. If the file does not exist, it should be created. Please refer to Oracle documentation on how to create an Oratab file.
Note that extra steps are necessary to discover Oracle Real Application Cluster databases. Please refer to the Backup Exec Administrator's guide to find out more information.
