Cause
The SRD for SSR 2013 uses the Microsoft Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE) 4.0.
WinPE 4.0 cannot read Windows deduplication volumes as it does not support the deduplication feature. Hence, recovery points that are stored on local Windows deduplication volumes cannot be restored using the SRD.
Resolution
One of the following workarounds may be used to restore recovery points stored on a Windows deduplication volume:
- If the recovery points are of data volumes, restore them using the System Recovery console while booted into Windows.
- Copy the recovery points currently stored on a local deduplication volume to a network share or external drive and then restore them using the SRD.
Issue/Introduction
Cannot restore backups that are stored on a local Windows deduplication volume using the System Recovery Disk (SRD) for System Recovery 2013 (SSR).
