Error Message

In the Backup Exec selection list, when selecting the Shadow Copy Components, an error message occurs:

An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of Shadow Copy Components.

A failure occurred initializing the Volume Snapshot Service.

 

The Volume Shadow Copy Service shows errors in the Event Viewer Logs.

The shadow copies of volume were aborted because of a failure to ensure crash dump or hibernate consistency.

 

Cause

VSS writers are in a failed state
 
 

Resolution

Reboot the server. If this still fails to produce desired results, perform the following:

  1. Use Windows Server Backup to backup the resources.
     
  2. Contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.
