Error Message

0xe00002f7 - Cannot extract mailbox messages from the Exchange backup. The following error was returned when opening the Exchange Database file: '-1 The function is not yet implemented.'

V-79-57344-919 - Cannot extract mailbox messages from the Exchange backup. Review the job log for more information.

Error Code: 0xe0000F41 - Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) processing was canceled by request. You will not be able to restore individual items from this backup set.

 This issue may occur when backing up Exchange using GRT to a remote backup to disk folder.

Make the following registry change and set the OnHostTemp value to a folder which does not reside on a mount point (in the steps below C:\Temp is specified however it can be set to any volume which is not a mount point).

Note: Registry change is required on the Backup Exec server if backup is going to a disk
 

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

1. Click Start -> Run and type "regedit".  Click OK.
2. Within the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Exchange
3. Right click and add a new String Value, "OnHostTemp".
4. Right click and set the value of OnHostTemp to "c:\temp".
5. Restart all the Backup Exec services on Media server and Backup Exec Remote Agent service on the Exchange Server.
6. Run the backup job of Exchange Resources from media server.

Note: Verify that the account(s) used by Backup Exec have full control over the c:\temp directory, if the permissions on this folder are not set properly then the backup may still fail with the above error.
