Error Message

Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of (C:\).Error EBAB0013: A test that safeguards the integrity of the program failed unexpectedly. PRECONDITION failed, LocalProgress::LocalProgress: .\LocalProgress.cpp(56): estimate.mUnits >= 0.Details: 0xEBAB0013

Cause

It is suspected bad disk geometry.

Resolution

 To determine if disk geometry is the issue do the following:

1. Run partinfo.exe
Location for partinfo.exe :
(x86) > C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Utility
(x64)> C:\Users\All Users\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Utility
2. Review partinfo.txt file by comparing the Partition Information for Disk #, where # is the disk number, 'Total sectors,' value  for each partition with its corresponding, Volume Boot Record, 'Total NTFS Sectors,' value, the difference should be a value of one.

For example :

 System               Part Table LBA   # Boot     BCyl Head Sect FS      ECyl Head Sect       StartSect         NumSects
=========================================================================================================================
C:\
   On Disk Values:                0   0  80         0   32  33  07      1023  254  63            2,048      156,299,264
   Calculated:                                      0   32  33          9729   78  13

====================================================================================================================

25: Serical Number:          0xEAA827EFA827B949
26: Checksum:                0  (0x00000000)

 Here the difference is more than 1 indicating partition problems.
156,299,264 - 156,151,799 =  147465

3. Use a file base backup utility (e.g. NTbackup) to create a backup of the data on the drive.

4. See if disabling the drive within the BIOS, reboot back into the BIOS and force a redetection properly then detect the partitions on this drive.

5. If step 4 fails, rebuild the file structure on the disk, and then restore the drive's data from step 1's backup.

Issue/Introduction

Unable to backup even if the options "Ignore bad sectors during copy" and "Disable SmartSector copying " both are selected during backup recovery set creation process.
