 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "VRTSRV::\\Cluster.Domain.local\Hyper-V?HA?VM\Guest1". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

Snapshot provider error (0x1398): The operation failed because either the specified cluster node is not the owner of the group, or the node is not a possible owner of the group.

Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Cause

This issue is caused by the ownership settings being incorrectly configured or VSS not being able to confirm the settings.

If you run a Cluster Validation Report you may see a warning on the CSV that a "node is not in the possible owners list".

Resolution

The resolution may be different depending on the errors/warnings in the Cluster Validation Report.

In the above scenario, removing the node and re-adding it to the cluster resolved the error.
