V-79-57344-38290 - An attempt to validate a datastore path failed.

The disk '[DATASTORE] FILENAME.vmdk' is at the root of the datastore.

Cause

This issue is caused by storing a VMDK on the root of a datastore.

Resolution

To fully protect a virtual machine that has a VMDK located on the root of the datastore use one of the following solutions.

1. Move the VMDK into a directory on the datastore.

2. Install the Backup Exec Remote Agent on the virtual machine and perform backups of the virtual machine as if it were a physical machine.

Note: Currently Backup Exec does not support backing up VMDK files located on the root of a datastore.

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to backup a VM (Virtual Machine) using the Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure the job may fail with the following errors if the VM has a VMDK located on the root of a datastore.
