Install and upgrade of Backup Exec and Agent for Windows installers.

Backup Exec product installation success depends on Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables run-time components for successful installation. To know the exact cause, analyze the Microsoft run-time installation log at the following locations:

Windows Server 2008 and later:   C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs\

The Microsoft runtime failures affect multiple installation scenarios such as local install, or push install, or upgrade of the Backup Exec server, or the Agent for Windows.

Copy the BE_DVD\BE\WinNT\Install\VCRedist folder on your desktop. The installation log highlights the failed Visual C++ run-time installer. In this scenario, install failed for VCRedist Version 9. So, retry the installation of VC++ version 9.0.

If the Microsoft Visual C++ run-time installer continues to fail, restart the machine, then rerun the installer. Upon successful installation of VCRedist run-time components, resume the Backup Exec server or the Agent for Windows installation.

Note: Backup Exec or Agent for Windows installer will not reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ run- time components again if they are already installed.
