Description
Error Message
V-79-57344-764 - Unable to restore any content for [mailbox name] because the Microsoft Exchange database that hosts that mailbox is offline or the mailbox doesn't exist.
0xe00002fc - Cannot restore one or more mailboxes. The database that the mailboxes reside in is dismounted or is not accessible. Ensure that the server is available and that the database is mounted, and then run the job again.
Cause
This error may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
- The mailbox for the user is deleted and then recreated with a different mailbox name (alias).
- The user is deleted from Active Directory and/or the mailbox of the user is also purged from Microsoft Exchange.
Resolution
The user account and mailbox of the user must exist to be able to restore the mailbox.
Solution 1:
If the mailbox was deleted and then recreated uncheck the "Automatically recreate user accounts and mailbox" box under Microsoft Exchange in the restore job properties.
When the option to "Automatically recreate user accounts and mailbox" is checked in the Exchange tab of the restore job, it will create a user and mailbox with the same name but different GUID.
A restore of a mailbox to a different GUID than the original will fail since Backup Exec is attempting to restore directly back to the original mailbox name (alias).
Solution 2:
When a user is deleted from Active directory, the account remains in the tombstone for 180 days in Windows 2003 and 60 days in Windows 2000 before it is finally deleted. The user can be restored from the tombstone if the period is not expired by running Microsoft's ADRestore.NET. It can be downloaded per the link below:
AdRestore v1.1
ADRestore.NET rewrite
https://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/guyt/archive/2007/12/15/adrestore-net-rewrite.aspx
Note: The restored user is disabled, must be enabled and the password reset before attempting the restore job from Backup Exec.
If the error,
" is not valid for UserPrincipalName. Valid values are: strings that includes @, where @ cannot be the last character.." ( Image 1) occurs while creating a mailbox after restoring the user in Exchange, verify if the domain name is populated in the User Logon Name box inside the Account tab of the user's properties in Active Directory (Image 2).

If the error,
"0xe00002f8 - Cannot open one or more mail messages because of unknown MAPI errors. Review the job log for more" occurs, then right click the user's mailbox in the Exchange Console and assign the Backup Exec Logon Account full rights over the mailbox or refer to the related documents below.
