Error In Main. Configuration system failed to initialize

Application Event log error;

Log Name: Application
Source: Application Error
Date:
Event ID: 1000
Task Category: (100)
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
Faulting application name: VProConsole.exe
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll
Exception code: 0xe0434352

Cause

This can be due to either;

  1. VSR is being blocked from running, by AV or Security software     or

  2. A corrupted user configuration (user.config) file. This file contains user preference data for the VSR / SSR console. It does NOT contain the backup job or historical data. If this file is corrupt while launching the console, the problem occurs.

Note: A repair or  uninstall\reinstall of the program does not resolve this issue.

Resolution

Scenario  1.

Define exclusions or allow access, in the AV or Security software.  3rd party applications, such as ProcMon ,may help monitor and identify the other applications affecting VSR, when it attempts to start.

Scenario 2.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the following folder:

► Windows XP/2003:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Symantec_Corporation\VProConsole.exe_Url_\11.0.0.0

 ► Windows Vista/7/2008 and later:
C:\Users\Administrator (or Administrator. )\AppData\Local\Veritas_Technologies_LLC\VProConsole.exe_Url_\21.0.0.0

example : C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Veritas_Technologies_LLC\VProConsole.exe_Url_htckz0fctybnsqmlud5vrnl2vmx5jqv3\21.0.0.0

Note: The bold number represents the VSR version installed on the system. If the system has been upgraded over time, your system may show one or more different versions, such as 11.0.x.x (SSR 2013), 11.1.x.x (SSR 2013 R2), 16.0.x.x (VSR 16), 18.0.x.x (VSR 18), 21.0.x.x (VSR 21) or 23.0.x.x (VSR 23).
In addition, in case of VSR the folder name is Veritas_Technologies_LLC.

  1. Open each folder one at a time. Delete all occurrences of user.config in each folder.

  2. If the above change does not resolve the issue, perform the following steps in the order listed:

  • In Windows Explorer, browse to the following:

    ► Veritas System Recovery 2013 and later
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config and \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config

  • Open the Config folder and verify the file machine.config exists. If it is missing, make a copy of machine.config.default file, then rename that copy to be machine.config. The folder will now contain both the original machine.config.default, and a copy of that file, renamed to machine.config.

  • Attempt to open the VSR console.
