When trying to browse Domino databases on a backup selection list the following error is received "An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of databases on Server|X:. The Lotus Domino Server timed out during an operation. Restart the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service".
Restarting the remote agent service has no effect.
During a normal browse of Lotus Domino databases, for every file found that is a valid database filename/extension, a command to open the database is sent to the Domino server (NSFDBOpen command). In some situations, this database open operation can take a long time. By default, there is a 60 second timer for these database operations.
To stop this database open command during the browse operation, the following registry setting can be used.
1. Open the Registry Editor (Click Start > Run > type regedit)
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
2. Browse to the following path:
HKLM\Software\veritas\Backup Exec for Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Domino
3. Change the "Enable Notes Database Filtering" DWORD value to 0 (by default it is set to 1)
4. Exit out of the Registry Editor console.
5. Restart the Backup Exec Remote Agent service.
The Domino Databases should now appear in the backup selection lists.
Note that this change will resolve the issue during the browse operation but not during backup, if the databases take longer than 60 seconds to open during backup, a timeout and backup failure may still occur. This timeout setting can be increased with a registry setting below:
