Description

Error Message

The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot provider failed to import the snapped volume to the media server during the offhost backup. The XML file may be invalid. Try running the job again.

Resolution

Workaround:

Run a non-offhost backup

Solution:

1. Confirm that the Backup Exec Media Server and the remote server are on the same operating system; both Windows Server 2003 SP2,  Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2.

2. Confirm that the Backup Exec Media Server and the remote server are running the same level of VSS patches. Compare the file versions of the VSSAPI.DLL and the VOLSNAP.SYS files on both the servers. Ensure the file versions for these files match on both the servers and then re-attempt the backup.
