Description:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: An internal inconsistency was detected in trying to contact shadow copy service writers. Please check to see that the Event Service and Volume Shadow Copy Service are operating properly.
Solution:
1. Open a command prompt (START | RUN | CMD | OK)
2. Type (without quotes) "vssadmin list writers" and press enter.
3. Verify all writers are listed as "Stable" with "No Errors".
If errors are listed or the writers are not stable:
1. Reboot the server.
2. Reperform the vssadmin list writers command.
3. If writers are not all listed as "Stable" with "No Errors", please reapply the latest RollUp or Update for VSS from Microsoft.
If no errors are listed and the writers are stable:
Reattempt the backup.
If any of the above steps continue to fail, further debugging is possible by contacting Microsoft for assistance regarding
VSStrace.
