Backup Exec (tm) Remote Agent for Windows Servers service fails to start, with the error:

Cause
This issue may occur for the following reasons:
a. The executable beremote.exe is missing.
b. The path to the executable is not set correctly for the Backup Exec Remote Agent service.
c. Port 10000 is being used by another application.
Resolution
Please follow the steps given below in order to resolve the above issue:
a. Verify the existence of the following directories on the server which hosts the Remote Agent:
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS
a. Verify the existence of the following directories on the server which hosts the Remote Agent:
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS
Or
C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS
If the Backup Exec or RAWS directory is missing, the Remote Agent should be reinstalled.
b. Check whether the path to the executable for the Backup Exec Remote Agent service is shown correctly.
1. To check this, go to Start | Run and type
2. Right-click the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service and select Properties (Figure 2)

3. Verify that the Path to executable: exists and is the same as shown in step "a"
If not, then change the value of Path to executable by following the steps given below:
1. Open REGEDIT
If the Backup Exec or RAWS directory is missing, the Remote Agent should be reinstalled.
b. Check whether the path to the executable for the Backup Exec Remote Agent service is shown correctly.
1. To check this, go to Start | Run and type
services.msc to open the SERVICES console2. Right-click the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service and select Properties (Figure 2)

3. Verify that the Path to executable: exists and is the same as shown in step "a"
If not, then change the value of Path to executable by following the steps given below:
1. Open REGEDIT
2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BackupExecAgentAccelator
3. Modify the ImagePath key to show the correct path (Figure 3)
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS
Or
C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows Registry Editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
c. Port 10000 is being used by some other application.
To check if any other application is using port 10000, go to Start | Run and type
Type the command
If there is any entry for port 10000 in the output, then it means that the port 10000 is being used by another application on the same server.
