Final Error Description:
 "An error occurred while scanning the catalogs. The job will not continue.  Check for the following:
- low virtual memory conditions
- a corrupt or truncated catalog
- that the media you are restoring has not been overwritten"
Final Error Category:  Job Errors
 

Cause

Cause 1: Restore job that was created previously is re-used. The restore job contains the old catalog information that was already removed. (Figure 1)

Cause 2: This occurs if the catalog index is corrupt.
 

Resolution

Solution 1 will resolve this issue in many cases. If Solution 1 does not help the issue, please perform Solution 2.

Solution 1:

Re-create a new restore job.

Solution 2:

There are several steps that can resolve the problem.
  1. A Rebuild Database Indices using BEUtility
     
  2. A Repair Database using BEUtility . Please see the Related Documents section 
     
  3. Reloading Backup Exec DB from base using BEUtility.
     

To Rebuild Database Indices using BEUtility, do the following:

  1. Quit Backup Exec 
     
  2. Go to the Root Drive:\Program Files\veritas\Backup Exec\BEUtility directory (default location), and double-click on BEUtility as seen in Figure 2.
    Eg:- C:\Program Files\veritas\Backup Exec\BEUtility.

  3. Expand Known Media Servers, right-click on All Media Servers, select New Media Server, enter the name of the Backup Exec media server, and click OK
     
  4. In the right window pane, right-click the Backup Exec media server, and then click Rebuild Database Indices from the context menu as seen in Figure 3

  5. The Operation Progress dialog box will appear, indicating the process of rebuilding the database indices as seen in Figure 4.

  6. On completion, click Close as seen in Figure 5

  7. Close BEUtility, open Backup Exec and attempt to restore the data again.
