Error Message
BSOD or the computer automatically boots into the Windows Recovery Environment (Startup Repair).
Cause
This issue is observed if the recovery process uses a driver which is not signed for Windows Server 2008 R2/Windows 7.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, restore the operating system using the Delete existing drivers and Prompt for drivers options.
To select these options:
- Boot into the SRD.
- Click Recover My Computer and select the recovery point to restore from.
- On the "Drives to recover" screen, hold the CTRL key while placing a check mark in Use Restore Anyware to recover to different hardware option. The Restore Anyware Options are displayed.
Note: These are hidden options that are not available in the default view.
- Select the Delete existing drivers and Prompt for drivers options.
Note: When using these options, the recovery wizard removes all existing storage and network drivers from the restored image and then prompts the user to supply the correct drivers for those devices on the new system. Ensure that all required storage and network drivers are available for the new system and are provided when prompted. Clicking "Ignore" on any driver prompt could result in a system that fails to boot after the restore.
- Click OK and continue with the recovery process.
Issue/Introduction
For HP-DL-380P Server, performing a bare metal restore/retarget of Windows 2008 R2/Windows 7 using the Veritas System Recovery Disk (SRD) created using the latest Windows ADK or using WinRE of Windows 2012/Windows 8 and above operating system, the restored computer fails to boot.
